How soon after line marking can the space be used?

The paint, on average, takes 30 minutes – 1 hour to dry, depending on a number of factors such as weather and application thickness. This will depend on the individual job specifications, but we aim to provide an efficient process where the space is ready for use in the quickest time possible.

What if we need line markings to be removed?

There are four techniques we can use when removing line markings and the technique depends on multiple factors.

These include:

  • Blacking Out – This simply refers to painting over the existing line marking with black or grey paint to match the below surface. Although not a permanent solution, this is a very cost-effective solution for low traffic areas.
  • Surface Grinding – As the name describes this technique relates to the removal of line marking by grinding it away. This is a common technique used especially when new lines are required to be painted over the top. This technique is recommended if the finish is not a key concern as it can often leave some scaring on the surfaces.
  • Water Blasting – Using a mix of sand and water, or just water alone, the surface is blasted to remove the existing line markings. This is an effective method, is chemical free and creates minimal mess as the machine both blasts and recovers the water at the same time.
  • Shot Blasting – This technique is performed by blasting small metal beads onto a concrete surface to chip away the line marking. The machine vacuums the metal beads as it goes and is a popular technique used in care parks and warehouses.

What is Thermoplastic paint?

Thermoplastic paint is a type of powder paint and is also referred to as hot melt marking paint. Once applied a hot melt kettle is used to heat it to 200 °C to melt the powder to the road or surface for marking. The coating then becomes a hard, polymer line after cooling.

Does the surface need cleaning before painting?

For longevity we prefer the surface to be pressure washed 3-5 days before we attend and we are able to do this for you.

What is the line marking process?

To commence the project we require clear and unimpeded access to the site. Our team at Line Marking Solutions will attend the site and prepare the surface by blowing away all lose debris, then tape and/or lay-down stencils. Then we complete the painting.

What colour paint do you offer?

White, yellow, red, blue, green, purple, black and orange.

What is the lifespan of the line markings?

Dulux advise 1,000,000 passovers by car traffic. This may vary due to weather conditions and sun exposure.

Do you have set stencils and templates or can you paint something unique for me?

We have a range of set stencils in various sizes and we can have custom stencils made at additional costs.
